This is one of several stories I wrote about being a parent. This was written in 2016 when my kids were still kids - before they became teenagers, before they began their own lives. It was that turning point or moments in time where I could see the tug of life and adventure and discovery pulling them away from me as a parent - as it should be. It's a bittersweet feeling, and one that came to mind in this story where instead of becoming an unruly teenager, the child became something wilder.
